Črna na Koroškem is distinguished by its rich natural heritage, among which water holds a particularly important place.
Across the mountainous slopes and narrow valleys, numerous streams of various sizes flow through the landscape. Hidden within the forests are springs, picturesque pools, rapids, and impressive waterfalls. These waters gather into the Javorski and Heleni streams, as well as the Bistra, Topla, and Jazbina creeks, before continuing their journey into the Meža River and further along the Meža Valley.
The region is also characterised by a rich and distinctive tradition of naming water features and related natural phenomena. Through local oral tradition, unique names have been preserved that describe the characteristics, appearance, and special qualities of individual water sources, reflecting the deep connection between the people and their natural environment.
